New Jobs

There can be no doubt that with the introduction of the bio energy program new jobs will be introduced.
The job creation will be at two levels;

a) As the bio energy programme will work closely with the charcoal production industry there will be converts from the charcoal production system who will embrace more user friendly technologies.

b) New entrants into the market who will be attracted by the potential of the new programme.

Amongst the jobs that will be introduced will be:

• Collecting biomass
• Garbage collection and sorting
• Producing briquettes – a cadre of small scale entrepreneurs with appropriate machinery who can go to where the biomass is and produce the briquettes
• Storage and package
• Selling biomass and selling briquettes
• Distribution
• Energy forestry
• Stove and oven production – small cadre of tinsmiths and bricklayers
• Special skills transfer – trainers and trainers of trainers

It is feasible that once this bio energy programme is fully embraced it would employ more people than are employed in the charcoal making industry.

Action: Think about it.
